We’ve got something a little different for you this week for the PGB TOTW. This song was written by Jason Halogen (of The Luxury) and Brendan Boogie (of The Best Intentions) to celebrate the show they’ll be playing this Friday, December 11th at the Paradise with Will Dailey and Violet Nine. As is the case with any holiday benefit song, celebrities flocked to their side to be included on the recording.

For the show, there’s going to be holiday surprises everywhere, and Brendan Boogie and the Best Intentions will also be releasing a new CD at this show, The Sweet & The Brutal. No word yet on whether the ‘All-Stars will be in attendance at the ‘Dise. So check out the song, and don’t forget to check out the series of Holidád videos that Jason, Brendan, Will, and the Violet Nine guys have also been making to promote the show – here’s the link to their YouTube channel. Be sure to check out my favorite, “Inviting Brendan!”

Like the song? Like the videos? Hate everything but recognize a great local lineup when you see one? Then get down to the Paradise this Friday 12/11 for Will Dailey’s Festivál Holidád! Tickets can be purchased in advance here!

Boston Music Awards 2009 Winners!

So the Boston Music Awards came and went this year, much like they do every year – with questions flying over the nomination process as well as the winner selection process. While there were a few gross oversights as usual, this year there were some great local bands nominated and there seemed to be more of a connection to the city with the nominees than in past years, where the link has been tenuous at best. There were quite a few PGB favorites nominated – click here for the full nominee list. There were a few interesting choices for winners – like a Rhode Island band winning Album of the Year at the BOSTON music awards, and one of the main sponsors of the event also winning Humanitarian of the Year (don’t get me wrong, both are certainly deserving, just seemed like somewhat interesting choices considering the circumstances involved). Regardless, these are certainly esteemed awards to win, and this year’s winners clearly have great things in store for their careers. Congrats to all!

Without further ado, here are your 2009 Boston Music Award Winners!

The ProblemAddicts - Photo by Katherine Taylor

So many shows, so little time. This weekend is absolutely chock-full of great local music. We’ve already featured a few in separate posts – BBC’s “What’s your Major” Series, Hempfest, etc. – but there are so many more we think you should know about! Here’s a little rundown of what’s going on this weekend in Boston Rock.

Friday, September 18th

Boston Band Crush “What’s your Major” Day 1 – Church –  check out the preview here

MassCann Boston Freedom Rally Preparty & Awards Show – Middle East Upstairs – featuring performances by Casey Desmond, Keep Me Conscious, Final Hour, and the ProblemAddicts. Band4MassCann will also be giving out awards for the best Boston music acts of the year.

Boston Music Spotlight Battle of the Bands – Oliver’s / Cask & Flagon – featuring PGB favorites Silent Century, as well as In Like Lions, Polyethylene, Shadwell, and Taste. Grand prize is worth over $5k, come out and support your favorite band!

Lauren Flaherty Acoustic set – Middle East Corner – Lauren will be performing two separate sets with her band at the Corner on Friday night. The first set will start at 10:30 and will feature a more traditional singer/songwriter style, while set #2 at 11:30 will get a little crazier and more upbeat. Lauren’s one of the nicest people I’ve come across in the entire local music scene, and a talented musician to boot!

The Wrecking Coast Debut show and EP Release – Copperfields – The Wrecking Coast will be joined by a great lineup featuring This Blue Heaven, Birds Make Birds, and Cola War Vets. They’ll be giving away free music all night too! Presented by Hear Now Live!

Will Dailey Plays Great Scott Tonight

by Noah on May.14, 2009, under Audio, Media

will-dailey-1

Will Dailey is a man on a musical mission, undertaking an ambitious project of digitally releasing one new EP every three months throughout 2009. He calls this ongoing audio affair Torrent, which seems a fitting title, as he plans to release a continuous stream of music throughout the year. Perhaps the title also alludes to today’s preferred method of music downloading (read: pirating).

Dailey’s first installment of Torrent is a 5-song EP entitled Fashion of Distraction that blends 60’s and 70’s era folk rock with current Top 40 pop. Below is a taste of the EP, the disc’s closing track “Allston” (honestly, how could I not include this song?) An Allston resident myself, I can certainly appreciate the lyrics “And down on Brighton when/the nighttime comes/There hides a silence that won’t shut up/It’s so simple in the worst way/Allston Watches while you fade.”

Dailey is performing tonight at Great Scott in Allston, check him out!
