I can’t believe this song hasn’t made Track Of The Week before now. This is easily the best song off of one of the best local releases of 2009! Oldjack has a residency at the end of every month at the Rosebud in Davis Square, Somerville. They’ve been inviting some of their favorite bands in town to play with them, and this Saturday night (8/28) is certainly one hell of a lineup! Check out the soulful sounds of Oldjack, the catchy pop rock of Brendan Boogie, and a special reunion set by retro indie rockers The Charms! This is a lot of great music for only $5, mark your calendars now and be sure to get down to Davis this Saturday!

CD Baby to donate $1 to Haitian Relief Efforts for Every Album Sold
by Bryan on Jan.26, 2010, under News

The outpouring of support to aid relief efforts in the wake of the earthquake in Haiti has been impressive thus far, but there is always a need for more. Now, thanks to CD Baby, there’s a way to support both the American Red Cross and your local music scene. CD Baby is the world’s largest online independent music retailer, earning independent artists over $100 million based on 5 million album sales over their years of operation. From now through February 7th, the retailer will be donating $1 from every single album sale they make to the American Red Cross to aid in Haiti. In addition, they will be taking that donation out of their commision, so the amount of money artists will make will not be affected by this initiative.
Been meaning to pick up the album from that local band you saw a few months back and have had stuck in your head ever since? Picked up the new CD from one of your favorite bands and now want to check out their back catalog? One of your favorite old local bands broke up and you don’t know where to get their CD since you can’t get it at a show? Heard of a new band from the PGB Tracks of the Week and want to pick up more of their music? What better time than now to go buy your music, when you can help out the artists you love and the people who need you at the same time?! Here’s some local artists from all types of genres that you can find on CD Baby:

As the vibrator was once used by men to sober us “hysterical” women and our wandering wombs, I imagine a piano or a music lesson was also used as a way to distract and tame us. But, now, in the same way the vibrator has become a great symbol of female sovereignty, sexual empowerment, and self-discovery, so has the power of rock. And if you have any question, consider the carnal force behind Karen O’s vocals on “Bang” from the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s 2001 EP, listen to some PJ Harvey or go ahead and blare “Horses” by the always lovely Patti Smith.
