PGB Pick: Team Shred Knight Out II

by Bryan on Jun.04, 2010, under News, Previews

knightout

Local superpromoter and faithful defender of local music Shred is taking over this city on Saturday. After his time as local music director at WBCN, overseeing Boston Emissions and over a dozen Rumbles, Shred has been booking countless shows throughout the city at a variety of different clubs. He’s responsible for the rise of hundreds of local bands over the years – you can ask just about any act in town and they’re sure to have a story or two about a Shred show they’ve played. In an era where music promoters can be extremely shady and dishonest, Shred has an immaculate reputation for staunchly supporting his bands and keeping their best interest in mind above all else. If you’re in a band in Boston trying to make your impact on the local scene, you want Team Shred in your corner!

This is the second annual rendition of the Team Shred Knight Out. To keep it short and simple (yeah right, like I ever keep anything short and simple), Shred’s booked 5 different clubs across Cambridge and Allston with local talent he’s been impressed with over the past year to create a sort of mini-festival of local rock. These bands aren’t necessarily the best-known on the local scene, but that in no way indicates a lack of talent or entertainment factor – everyone’s gotta start somewhere! So do yourself a favor, check out some bands you may have never heard of before, and see who’s on the rise in Boston music today! Here are the lineups for each venue, complete with their website links so you can get a feel for each band before deciding which show to head down to.

So many shows, so little time. This weekend is absolutely chock-full of great local music. We’ve already featured a few in separate posts – BBC’s “What’s your Major” Series, Hempfest, etc. – but there are so many more we think you should know about! Here’s a little rundown of what’s going on this weekend in Boston Rock.

Friday, September 18th

Boston Band Crush “What’s your Major” Day 1 – Church –  check out the preview here

MassCann Boston Freedom Rally Preparty & Awards Show – Middle East Upstairs – featuring performances by Casey Desmond, Keep Me Conscious, Final Hour, and the ProblemAddicts. Band4MassCann will also be giving out awards for the best Boston music acts of the year.

Boston Music Spotlight Battle of the Bands – Oliver’s / Cask & Flagon – featuring PGB favorites Silent Century, as well as In Like Lions, Polyethylene, Shadwell, and Taste. Grand prize is worth over $5k, come out and support your favorite band!

Lauren Flaherty Acoustic set – Middle East Corner – Lauren will be performing two separate sets with her band at the Corner on Friday night. The first set will start at 10:30 and will feature a more traditional singer/songwriter style, while set #2 at 11:30 will get a little crazier and more upbeat. Lauren’s one of the nicest people I’ve come across in the entire local music scene, and a talented musician to boot!

The Wrecking Coast Debut show and EP Release – Copperfields – The Wrecking Coast will be joined by a great lineup featuring This Blue Heaven, Birds Make Birds, and Cola War Vets. They’ll be giving away free music all night too! Presented by Hear Now Live!
