I can’t believe this song hasn’t made Track Of The Week before now. This is easily the best song off of one of the best local releases of 2009! Oldjack has a residency at the end of every month at the Rosebud in Davis Square, Somerville. They’ve been inviting some of their favorite bands in town to play with them, and this Saturday night (8/28) is certainly one hell of a lineup! Check out the soulful sounds of Oldjack, the catchy pop rock of Brendan Boogie, and a special reunion set by retro indie rockers The Charms! This is a lot of great music for only $5, mark your calendars now and be sure to get down to Davis this Saturday!

PGB Pick: The Rock Primary featuring Sidewalk Driver, The Motion Sick, Brendan Boogie, Leo Blais @ TT The Bears 7/16
by Bryan on Jul.16, 2010, under Media, News, Previews, Video
Friday, July 16th – TT The Bears
An undeniably strong local indie pop lineup, set to a political theme. This bill is solid front-to-back, highlighted by Sidewalk Driver’s glam antics and Brendan Boogie’s so-catchy-its-scary assortment of hooks and harmonies. Popsters The Motion Sick and Leo Blais are sure to keep you bobbing your head and singing along all night – good luck trying to stay still! Added incentive: This is one of The Motion Sick’s final shows, this could be your last chance to see how energetic their live performance is and how snappy they dress, not to mention frontman Mike Epstein’s Mustache-to-end-all-mustaches (It’s so intense it needed to be capitalized.) The good part is that most of the band members are still kicking around town involved in other projects, but time is running out to catch them together as a full band!
The bands are calling this show “The Rock Primary,” and in conjunction with Killer Suit Media have created over a dozen campaign videos running the gamut from the traditional “vote for me” vids to scandal, intrigue, rebuttals, apologies, press ambushes and more. Seriously, take 10 minutes, head on over to The Rock Primary Youtube Channel right now and watch the entire series – highly entertaining and well worth your time! These bands obviously put a lot of time and effort into coming up with creative new ways to promote their shows – even if this go-around we’re not quite sure what office they’re trying to get themselves elected to! But hey, everyone loves a good smear campaign! (Just ask Scott Brown! heeeeyooooo)

Hundreds of local Boston rockers descended upon The Bridge Sound & Stage up in North Cambridge on Sunday for a BBQ of epic proportions. The event was a collaboration by a number of local Boston music sites – PGB, Boston Band Crush, Bradley’s Almanac, Exploit Boston!, Ryan’s Smashing Life, Tea Party Boston, Zed = Zee, and Agent Bishop Productions. In addition to some amazing food, tons of beer provided by our friends at Narragansett, and a charity raffle that netted hundreds of dollars for local children’s music organization Zumix, some instruments were set up on stage and musicians were invited to jam out together. Mick Murray of In Your Face Photography caught some great video of some of the better jams, here’s our favorites from the night. A big thanks to all the musicians who participated, and a lot of credit has to be given for the EXCELLENT selection of covers over the course of the night. We’ve provided links to the bands represented in each jam, if you’d like to help us with the ones we missed feel free to leave a comment or send an e-mail over to bryan@playgroundboston.com.

We’ve got something a little different for you this week for the PGB TOTW. This song was written by Jason Halogen (of The Luxury) and Brendan Boogie (of The Best Intentions) to celebrate the show they’ll be playing this Friday, December 11th at the Paradise with Will Dailey and Violet Nine. As is the case with any holiday benefit song, celebrities flocked to their side to be included on the recording.
For the show, there’s going to be holiday surprises everywhere, and Brendan Boogie and the Best Intentions will also be releasing a new CD at this show, The Sweet & The Brutal. No word yet on whether the ‘All-Stars will be in attendance at the ‘Dise. So check out the song, and don’t forget to check out the series of Holidád videos that Jason, Brendan, Will, and the Violet Nine guys have also been making to promote the show – here’s the link to their YouTube channel. Be sure to check out my favorite, “Inviting Brendan!”
Like the song? Like the videos? Hate everything but recognize a great local lineup when you see one? Then get down to the Paradise this Friday 12/11 for Will Dailey’s Festivál Holidád! Tickets can be purchased in advance here!
