Each week Playground Boston will feature a song from a local artist that has caught our attention. These songs span all genres and will showcase the best of what Boston has to offer. We hope you give the tracks and the artists that made them a listen and let us know what you think.
If you would like your best song to be considered for the PGB track of the week, email it to email@example.com. We’ll check it out and notify you if your track is selected! Please note that submitting a single for consideration here will not discourage us from reviewing your full album – we still want to hear what you’ve got. Please see the Contact page to find out how to submit your album for review!

What a mind-blowing build on this song! Make sure to let the whole thing play out, it’s well worth the time! The Acre are releasing Cerca Trova tomorrow night, Friday 4/29, at TT The Bear’s. They’ve put together a great lineup for the celebration too – you’ve seen us wax poetic countless times about how friggin’ awesome a Kingsley Flood live show is, if you still haven’t caught them yet this is a perfect opportunity! Pearl & The Beard blew us away when we caught them at CMJ, click here to check out our mini-review! KF and P&TB will both be releasing new material this evening as well – The ‘Flood’s got a new single, and The ‘Beard’s got a brand new album to promote as well! Rounding out the bill are Bandit Kings and Ugly Purple Sweater, should be a great night of music all around!

Hats off to Church for booking some seriously brutal shows lately, and of course hats off to Boston’s metal scene for pumping out more and more good music every single day!

PGB Track Of The Week #81: Doctor Doom Orchestra – Ride Out ||| CD Release Party Friday 4/15 @ Middle East Downstairs!
Off The Ground EP

In a city with a very limited selection of good reggae bands, it’s good to see Doctor Doom Orchestra rise up from the ashes of the Doctors of Flight and keep this reggae rock style going! We knew our TOTW was gonna come from this EP as soon as it hit our desk, but wow was it tough to pick a favorite off of it! Immediately after the first listen, 3 tracks in particular jumped out at us – “Ride Out,” “Badlands,” and “Deep In The Green.” We highly recommend checking them out for yourself – we’ll give you this taste, but if you want more you’ll have to head on over to DDO country! The album is set for worldwide release on Friday, April 15th, head over to the DDO website to find out how to pick up a copy for yourself!
… Or if you’d rather pick up Doctor Doom Orchestra‘s new album in person, there’s always their CD Release Party on Friday, April 15th at the Middle East Downstairs! They’ll be sharing the stage with the mighty Dopapod, as well as Insigniya, Trailer 4, and a special appearance by T-Buck of Deadfish fame. DDO will also be working with local non-profit Strangers Helping Strangers, so bring some canned goods down for the cause! Don’t sleep on grabbing tickets though, this show is almost certain to sell out so either get your tickets in advance here or make sure to show up at the ME nice and early!

In case you hadn’t heard, the New England Americana Festival is back! This roots-rockin’ event was wildly successful last year, selling out 3 consecutive nights at Church. This year they’re aiming to repeat their success, and they’ve tapped the cream of the crop of local Americana bands to help accomplish just that! Three Day Threshold will be performing Saturday night, alongside “Gearan, Royer, Ryan & McNeill”, Sam Reid & The Riot Act, Kieran Ridge Band, The Whiskey Boys, Sam Wheeler, The Resurrectionists, Glen Yoder & His Merry Band, Mr. Sister, Cactus Attack, Chasing Blue, Coyote Kolb, Eric Royer & his Guitar Machine. Yeah – that’s a lot of music! So make sure to get down there for Saturday, and tonight too if you can make it! The whole event is sponsored by Narragansett (you know what that means!) and there will be a raffle with some great prizes to benefit Club Passim!
*Cowboy Hat not required, but encouraged, dammit. Bolo ties too. Where the hell do you get those, anyway?

Catch some serious rockabilly this Saturday (3/26) at the Midway Cafe in JP! The most ‘billy bill in town (OK that was lame, but hey – couldn’t resist) features and Al & The Black Cats and Tex Railer’s Doomtown, with The Egos and The Headcutters set to warm the place up by rocking out the joint! There are a lot of great shows happening on Saturday, but this is the place to be if you’re looking for a little more grit and a little more grease than anything any of the other lineups have to offer!
Saturday, March 26th - Midway Cafe

We’re looking at a seriously packed PAs Lounge this Saturday, March 19th. The very small venue will be hosting a very large amount of metalheads for a very fucking metal lineup, featuring Black Breath, Motherboar, Phantom Glue, and Hivesmasher! If you want in on this one better get down to Union Square early, because this one’s got a good chance of selling out and you don’t want to be left banging your head on the side of the road (though actually, that could be kind of cool if there were enough people… sidewalk takeover!)
Saturday, March 19th – PAs Lounge
Doors at 8:30pm / $10 / 18+

How about a show! Catch Trabants playing with the unbelievably talented Kristen Ford Band and My Pet Dragon down at Precinct this Sunday (3/6)! Head down, catch some live tunes, and pick up a copy of the full album and see how the rest of the songs stack up to the ones on the 3-song sampler! The event is presented by the fine folks over at Desert Race Boston, and honestly, can you really go wrong with Precinct? Or Union Square as a whole for that matter? That whole neighborhood is always crawling with live music… and some pretty awesome bars… and some great places to eat… and… and… To Somerville!
