Too many record releases, too little time. OK well three record releases and one video release. And its actually only two different shows. But hey, I haven’t figured out how to be two places at once yet, if you have any groundbreaking research about this feel free to let me know. Anyway, these two shows are way too good to choose between, so we figured we’d tell you about both and you can decide for yourself based on your musical taste. No matter which you pick, you’re gonna have a hell of a good time this Friday.
The Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge has an unbelievable punk rock lineup ready to shake the rafters and possibly burst your eardrums – Televandals, Have Nots, Burning Streets, Side Effects, and Six String Bullets. The electro-punk craziness that is the Televandals are officially releasing the video for “Good For Nothing,” the debut single off of their as-yet-unreleased first album. The single has met with great success since its release on September 4th, including a selection as MP3 of the week at The Phoenix and a sold-out release show at The Pill at Great Scott in Allston (not to mention some sneak-peek action on PGB way back in June). We here at PGB are excited to see how the video is going to come out, see it for yourself on Friday!
Burning Streets are also releasing their debut CD this Friday at the Middle East. I received Is it in Black & White about a week ago in the mail, and I’ve been listening to it pretty much non-stop ever since. I think I can safely say its one of my favorite records I’ve been sent so far this year. Their music has kind of a Bouncing Souls feel to it, with a little more balls to the vocals. This should be an incredible show – Have Nots always put on a great set, and Side Effects is the new project from James Lynch of the Dropkick Murphys – should be interesting to hear what his new band sounds like. Check out a Burning Streets track off the new CD, and if you like what you hear get down to the Middle East and help them celebrate the release!

Across town over at Church there’s another amazing record release party, featuring the official debut of new CDs by Reverse and Oldjack, joined on stage by Populace and Gaslight Revival! Reverse officially melted my face opening for The Lights Out last month – I’m still trying to get all my features re-situated and its been like 3 weeks. This power trio cuts loose with some hard rock that fans of all genres can get into – something about jaw-dropping solos, heart-pounding basslines and drum psychosis tends to attract fans to their music. Monkey Mind will be their first release since 2002′s The Jersey Switch, and in all honesty – it’s about friggin time. I’m very much looking forward to getting a copy of this album, and if you feel the same way make sure you get down to Church and pick one up in person!
We’ve been waiting for Oldjack’s new CD, Union Glory, to come out for way way way too long. The band has technically been together for almost 5 years and has been playing all over Boston throughout that time, but apart from a demo this will be their first release. Long-awaited doesn’t even begin to describe it! These guys put on a great show – if they can all fit on stage, that is. Oldjack has been known to cram up to 9 band members up on some very tiny stages, at least they’ll have room up at Church to get the entire ensemble up there comfortably. The band has put together a who’s who of Boston rock talent to achieve their bluesy, soulful Joe Cocker style, featuring members of The Luxury, Ms. Pigeon, The Halogens, and more! Here’s a track from the new album, head down to Church on Friday and catch them play this and more brand new songs!
