PGB Presents: Back to School Special at the Middle East Downstairs!
by Bryan on Sep.22, 2009, under News, Previews

This Thursday Playgroundboston.com, in conjunction with WTBU and Rocknrollboston.com, are taking over the Middle East Downstairs for a incredible night of rock with some of the best bands the local scene has to offer! We’re gonna keep it nice and cheap for you too – $10 gets you 5 great bands, but if you’ve got a student ID you get $3 off!
Check out the amazing lineup! We got The Luxury, who just this past weekend played to a crowd estimated to be in excess of 20,000 at the Boston Freedom Rally on the Common. We got The New Collisions, playing their first show back in their hometown after touring the nation with the B52’s and opening up for Blondie. Muy Cansado will be debuting a new drummer for this show, and they’ll all be joined on stage by the Hot Protestants and Oranjuly, two excellent indie pop bands. We’re looking at light shows, costumes, special guests, and plenty of other surprises all night long!
There’s been some rumors of sweet giveaways throughout this show! The Luxury is going to be handing out school supplies and other goodies, and we hear The New Collisions have a few tricks up their sleeves, as well. Plus, check out Muy Cansado’s Myspace for info on how to pick up a free copy of their CD Stars & Garters at the show. Great indie pop rock AND free stuff? How can you beat that?
Oh wait, we CAN beat that… and we DID beat that. As if all these great bands weren’t enough, we’ve lined up the deadly DJ duo Roguewaves to spin in between sets. Roguewaves, comprised of DJs Justincredible and Zak Broman, is one of the biggest electronic acts in the city right now and are sure to keep things moving in between bands. We’re looking at a nonstop onslaught of tunes here!

The Rock Out Boston Club will be out in force for this show as well. This club brings together like-minded local music lovers who meet up before shows, talk music, drink some beers, and then head over as a group to whatever show has been selected for the night. They also put together a sampler of all of the bands playing to pass out to their members, to help everybody become familiar with the music. For more info, or if this sounds good to you and you want to sign up, head to their website!
